More advice than a project...

More advice than a project...

Postby Bizzeh » Sun Aug 02, 2009 6:05 pm

.... but i'm still doing alot and i should be taking pictures!

Hi btw :D

I'm looking to completely watercool my system and i've got a fairly good idea about the main components I need (i'm very taken with the aqua-computer stuff).

My system:

Intel Q9550
DFI X38 T2R
2x2GB GeIL evo
GTX 295
Antec Fusion Max Case

As far as i can tell i'm going to need:
Aquacomputer Cuplex XT
Aquastream XT Ultra
AquagraFX 295 Cooler
MIPS DFI LANparty X38 Freezer Set POM
140mm Radiator (to fit externally)
and all the other bits

Now i'm not really too sure on "all the other bits", what adaptors i'll need, what fluids to use, any extra's i'll need.

Also can i get away without using a res as i'm not too sure where i'd put one! Given the amount of things i'm cooling is it even an entertainable idea?

Cheers in advance!

Hi Biz and welcome to the forum :)

What case are you planning to pop this all in?

Also im guessing you mean 240 rad rather then 140?

As for the res you dont "need" one as we can show you how to make a fill port on a T-line to save space. :D

A CPU and a GTX295 on a 140mm rad is pushing it (even if you did mean 240, then it's still gonna be pushing it, depending on the CPU) 360mm minimum tbh

errr.... Do what??!?!

The case I have is an Antec Fusion Max which is pretty roomy, but very compartmentalised so looks like it could be a bit of a pain in the butt.

I was going for a 140mm due to there being a rear 140mm fan and i fancied some easy mounting (i'm not up for chopping holes in things and modding anything as i like the asthetics of my case).

Is a stand alone radiator an idea?

As Peter mentioned a single 140 radiator would not cool those components effectively.

Chuck up a link or even better a picture of your current setup and we can see what can be done. Then we ca worry about the T line / res issue ;)

Finally stopped using my machine long enough to take it apart and snap some pics.

Image

Where the machine currently lives. This corner of the room is due a bit of a clean up so most of the surronding crap won't be there post-project.

Image

A better look at the case.

Image

The rear of the case, and all the lovely things I need connecting up.

Image

One of the insides. You can see the mess of cables, the lack of clearance my graphics card has, and the horribly enclosed CPU fan.

Image

The hard disk can be relocated to the PSU chamber and the hard disk mountings above the graphics card removed, but this will just give me more room to run cables in. Possible location for a pump?

Possible location for the right size Res??

yikes. They all see pretty pricey. and no doubt i'll need\want an expensive one! (i'm already looking at the aquacomputing ones!) Alot of the external systems look to be designed to use with tower cases too.

When i'm back from a working trip i'll move the hard disk about and try sorting the system out a bit, give you more idea of what room i've got to play with. In the mean time feel free to try and knock up a list of what you think i might want, i need to have a rough idea of cost on this build really!

The other option is changing to a case that offers you more room to instal an internal cooling system.

Thats not an option. This case was bought for looking like it belonged in a stereo system, plus it's only 2 months old!
